Does A October 21st PlayStation 4 Release Make Sense?

sony-ps4-playstation-4-coming-holiday-2013-001
“Coming Holiday Season” were Sony’s words this year at E3, but a NeoGaf source says Sony might be telling…a SMALL fib.
A new rumor that states the PlayStation 4 will release on October 21st has the internet speculating a much earlier release than previously expected. The rumor stems from a NeoGaf member that goes by the name “Nealand Liquor”. Regularly, you would take a rumor like this with a grain of salt, but it seems as though this member is “Mod-Verified“. If you don’t understand what that means, here is the term explained more in depth. (Source: NeoGaf)
Mod-verified means that this particular gaffer is indeed in the position to receive such knowledge, as has been checked by Bishoptl himself.
This means it’s still a rumor, but it does have a verified source. Nothing more.
Below is what the NeoGaf member posted in the thread “TALES FROM MY ASS”. (Source: NeoGaf)
“Rumor: Our internal product release schedule from head office dropped yesterday and on Oct 21st an unnamed Sony console will be launched. FYI all console revisions like the ps360 slims and Wii Mini were listed as ps360 & wii mini. Previously the wiiu, 3ds and vita were also only listed as Nintendo/Sony Console in the product name column.
Disclaimer: I just work at a very large retailer, managing the electronics sales force and nothing more. I have nothing to do with purchasing, nation wide merchandising or shipping. I am not trying to play this off as I have connections at Sony, or I am some sort of insider. It’s that just yesterday we received a product release schedule from our head office and I thought this is OT itt. These schedules btw, are for internal use only, designed to allow us time to create our instore merch plans. If the launch date for a product is unknown, it’s simply marked TBA. The only time a date is ever included is when we have received confirmation of said date from the product company.”
With that being said, this rumor could very well become a reality next week at Gamescom for all we know. The real question at hand is…..does a October release make sense? Is it too early? Is it too late? Is it right on time? Lets talk about a few key factors before answering these questions.

Unlike! Research links social networking to unhappiness

  • facebook-thumbs-down.jpg

Facebook could be spreading unhappiness through society as well as keeping people connected, research has shown.

The number one social networking site is strongly associated with declines in well-being, psychologists claim.
Scientists found the more time people spent on Facebook over a two-week period, the worse they subsequently felt.
In contrast, talking to friends on the phone or meeting them in person led to greater levels of happiness.
"On the surface, Facebook provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling the basic human need for social connection," said Study leader Ethan Kross, from the University of Michigan.
'Rather than enhance well-being, we found that Facebook use predicts the opposite -- it undermines it.'

The researchers recruited 82 young adults, all of whom had smartphones and Facebook accounts.

Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch rumored for September 4 launch

  • Samsung galaxy gear concept.jpg

We started the year full of expectation regarding smartwatches, and for a while, it looked like they would be matched after seeing the launch of the Pebble, the Sony SmartWatch 2, and various others. However, the noise has died down over the past few months, thanks to the silence from Google, Apple and Microsoft.

This could all change on September 4, when Samsung could show off the Galaxy Gear, its own smartwatch project.
The rumor comes from SamMobile, although no sources are mentioned, where it says the watch will be launched alongside the Galaxy Note 3. We already know the firm is holding its second Unpacked event of the year on that date, making it the ideal venue.

Xbox One vs PS4

Introduction

The Xbox One and PS4 are almost here. Before the year is out, both consoles will be out. And what shoes they have to fill.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 have both sold over 75 million units, and have been around for the best part of a decade. The Xbox One and PS4 will define the future of home console gaming.

But which one should you pre-order? We've compared the two consoles to help you make the right decision.

Loophole enables anyone to get a Windows 8 license for free

Copies of Windows 8 Pro are freely available from Microsoft’s website for anyone who wants to try out the operating system. Normally, the software would expire after 180 days, a period that is meant to allow Volume Licensing customers to automate and manage the activation process. But a loophole in the company’s Key Management System allows anyone to legitimately activate their copy of Windows 8 permanently, for free.
The goof centers around the Windows Media Center upgrade that’s being for free offered by Microsoft themselves until January 31 next year. Specifically, when entering the add-on key, Microsoft’s Key Management System will let you fully activate your copy of Windows 8 without running a validity check for the product key of the underlying system the Media Center add-on is being installed on.
To get a free Media Center key all users need to do is request it from Microsoft’s website using any email address. Once the code is in your inbox, do a search for “Add features to Windows 8” under Settings, click on it and enter the product key. Media Center will download and install, and after your system comes back from a reboot, you’ll be able to use the same upgrade product key to activate Windows.

Most Anticipated PC Games of 2013

Most Anticipated PC Games of 2013

It's an exciting year for gamers -- not just because the industry has whipped up an appetizing menu of fresh releases, but because we're approaching the next console generation, which will inevitably come with interesting new software projects, and many of them are bound to hit PC. Assuming Microsoft and/or Sony ship their updated hardware by the holidays, we could see some major launch titles shown at E3 in June, which might render our collection of 35 games (and 10 bonus mentions we're lukewarm about) incomplete.
And with that, we need to smack you with this obvious disclaimer: many interesting upcoming titles were excluded from our list, which is admittedly subjective and impossible to complete without adding everything due in 2013, but that would totally defeat the purpose of a "most anticipated" compilation. As always, you're more than welcome (encouraged, even) to hit the comments and tell us what we've missed and why you think it's important -- just make sure it's a PC game coming out in 2013 or be ready to take your lumps.

8 Free to Play Games That Are Too Good to Be True

8 Free to Play Games That Are Too Good to Be True
The gaming world is making a dramatic shift towards free to play games. Of course, full price retail titles still make up for a majority of releases on the PC and most other platforms, but playing a quality game without cracking your wallet open is a completely viable option nowadays.
You could argue some free games deserve to be free, as their quality or length is not quite up there with AAA releases, but there are plenty of notable exceptions. In fact, some of them are so good that it’s easy to forget the cost to play is a whopping zero dollars.
Most free video games offer at least some form of in-game purchases, designed to extend the experience and serve as a steady revenue stream for its creators. But a free to play game made right will allow players to enjoy everything it has to offer, while keeping monetary transactions completely optional.
We’ve combed through the Internet to bring you the very best PC games pushing forward the free-to-play model -- and making a good name for it, too. Check them out below:

How To Use a Console Controller on Your PC

How To Use a Console Controller on Your PC

Though it's a platform that began with the joystick as the dominant control method, over the past twenty years the keyboard and mouse overtook it to become the only way to play most games on the PC. Which is a shame, because there are a lot of them that play better with a control pad.
This has become especially true over the past 3-4 years, as the PC has started to get a lot more ports of console titles, thanks to both the relative ease of bringing code over and the increasing popularity of Steam leading to a bigger market.

Xbox One unboxed

Microsoft today posted an unboxing video for the Xbox One, three months before the next-generation console arrives on store shelves this November.
The console shown in the video is one of the first production units, Microsoft said, adding that fewer than 20 exist in the world. The system features the new 853mhz GPU announced last week.
The unboxing video, available below, is for a Day One Edition of the system, including a special Day One package, a uniquely branded controller with chrome D-pad, and a Day One digital achievement.
As was previously announced, the Xbox One itself sports a 500GB hard drive, slot load Blu-ray drive, IR blaster port, HDMI input and output connectors, a S/PDIF interface, three USB 3.0 ports, wired and wireless network support, and a Kensington Security Slot.

Updating Wi-Fi Passwords on your Smartphone

Updating Wi-Fi Passwords on your Smartphone
If you're aware of the security risks an unsecured Wi-Fi connection presents, you'll already ensure that your home network is WPA2-enabled and protected with a complex and somewhat random password. Doing this is good practice when it comes to your data and network security.
However, another great security measure is to change your password at regular intervals. This will ensure that if anyone does get hold of your password the access they have will be limited until the next time you update your details. The downside is that you'll need to change the Wi-Fi password on any connected devices. Unfortunately the major mobile platforms require you to remove and re-add trusted networks. It's not too complicated though, and to do so on your selected device, follow the relevant steps below:

Chrome bug reveals your passwords

WASHINGTON: A security bug has been discovered in Google Chrome browser that allows the software to automatically display users' saved passwords while importing bookmarks from other browser.

According to ABC News, the web designer, Elliott Kember discovered the flaw while importing his bookmarks from Safari browser to Chrome and found that while there is a check mark to disable the password import it can't be unchecked on an Apple Mac device.

Google said that it would release the patch soon to users to better represent how passwords are handled across all platforms including syncing of passwords from Safari to Mac version of Chrome.

New technology to capture 3D images from a kilometre away

(Researchers have developed…)
LONDON: Researchers have developed a new laser powered camera system that creates high-resolution 3D images of objects from up to a kilometre away.
A standard camera takes flat, 2D pictures. To get 3D information, such as the distance to a far-away object, scientists can bounce a laser beam off the object and measure how long it takes the light to travel back to a detector.
